A {store} birth story

Welcome to Wild in Wanderland!

Wild in Wanderland is a brand that was dreamt up over four years ago after the birth of my first child. Prior to his birth, I was an Elementary school teacher with a Master’s degree.  I had spent the past decade+ assisting in “raising” the children of other’s, and I knew  with the impending birth, it was time to take the time to raise my own.  So I left the teaching profession to stay at home with my sweet, new baby boy.  I have always been a creative, and I figured with all this new found time on my hands I would start creating.  I started collecting ideas, and even came up with a shop name… At the time, it was named DahlHouse Co., but the core themes remain the same today{Adventure•Travel•Nature•Home}. Many of the products that will be released to the Wild in Wanderland shop were dreamed up under the DahlHouse Co name.

4 years ago... what took so long?

While the intention and enthusiasm were there, the ill timing of attempting to open up a shop with a newborn in the house made it extremely difficult to turn my ideas into physical products.  Basically I was waiting for all that free time to come to me. The time, dedication, and self discipline needed to open up and run a new shop and grow the brand into everything I envisioned just wasn’t realistic while also learning the ins and outs of being a new mom.  So instead, I took the time to enjoy my baby boy, while still noting ideas and catching inspiration for my “someday” dream.  A few years later, his little brother arrived and I continued to take more time to love on them both and soak it all in.  While I still love on them daily and soak up all of the awesomeness that is motherhood, I am now feeling fully ready and inspired to get back into the swing of things. #dontstopbelieving

Why change the name?

DahlHouse Co. evolved over the past four years to really represent our family unit. While my whole crew is a part of this journey, I just no longer wanted the products and brand to share the name of what became known as my day-to-day family life.  While they are both very much me, it was also important for them to have some separation.

Wild in Wanderland

So one day, while thinking about the main themes surrounding the brand, Wild in Wanderland came to mind. I felt this name embodied everything my Pacific Northwest based brand was becoming. So along with {Adventure•Travel•Nature•Home} I added the additional tags of {Wild•Love•Wander•Free}.  This is the Pacific Northwest lifestyle I love.  You will notice on some of the branding it appears as WAnderland, with the capital WA standing for the great state of Washington. If you live here, or have ever visited, you know what an epic wonderland this place is to wander in. From the shores of the ocean to the beaches of Puget Sound, the peace of the mountains to the hustle and bustle of the city, the dry desert lands of the east to the thick, wet rain forests in the west, Washington offers it all!

Plus when you look up the name in the Urban Dictionary, you get this:

…and well, yeah.

What can I expect from Wild in Wanderland?

The shop will be opening up on Etsy April 2017!  I will be introducing 2 lines during our opening {Heart Marks the Spot} and {Celebration Love}.  I will be sharing more about these lines in upcoming blog posts.  From there, it is my hope to expand the line into more map related art, nature art, words to live by, and apparel.  As we gain our footing I would love to explore the idea of getting our goodies out to some of our favorite local shops.

So welcome to the blog and I hope you’ll follow my journey as I prepare to launch the store of a lifetime (well, my boys’ short lifetime anyways).

Hugs forever! -Jami
